How to Set a Custom World Seed on Your Valheim Server

ValueGameNode 53

Introduction

Welcome to ValueGameNode! This guide will walk you through the simple process of setting a custom world seed for your Valheim server. A world seed is a sequence of characters that generates a unique world map. Using a specific seed allows you to explore a known world layout that you or someone else has discovered, ensuring you get the exact starting environment you want for your Viking adventure!

This process is straightforward and only takes a few minutes through our control panel.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, please make sure you have the following:

  • An active Valheim server with ValueGameNode.
  • Access to your server's control panel at game.vgncloud.com.
  • The world seed you wish to use. A seed can be any combination of letters and numbers (e.g., vgnROCKS or 42069nice).

Step-by-Step Guide

Follow these steps carefully to change your server's world seed.

Step 1: Stop Your Server

It is crucial to stop your server before making any configuration changes. This prevents any potential data loss or corruption of your world files.

  1. Navigate to the control panel at game.vgncloud.com and log in.
  2. Select your Valheim server from the server list.
  3. In the main Console view, click the red Stop button.
  4. Wait for the console to confirm that the server is fully offline before proceeding.

Step 2: Navigate to Startup Settings

The world seed is a startup parameter, which means it's configured in the Startup tab of our control panel.

  1. With your server selected, find and click on the Startup tab in the main navigation bar.
  2. Here you will see all the basic settings for your server, including the World Name, Password, and World Seed.

Step 3: Set a New World Name and Seed

To ensure a new world is generated with your new seed, you must change both the World Name and the World Seed. If you only change the seed but keep the old world name, the server will ignore the new seed and load your existing world.

  1. Locate the WORLD NAME variable field. Change the name to something new and memorable (e.g., MyNewAsgard).
  2. Locate the WORLD SEED variable field. Carefully enter your desired seed here. Remember that seeds are case-sensitive!
  3. Double-check that you have entered both fields correctly and that there are no extra spaces.

Step 4: Start Your Server

Once you have updated the startup parameters, you are ready to start the server and generate your new world.

  1. Navigate back to the Console tab.
  2. Click the green Start button.
  3. The server will now begin its startup process. The first boot with a new world can take several minutes as it needs to generate the entire map from your seed.
  4. Monitor the console output. Once you see a message indicating the server is running and the game world has loaded, your new custom world is ready!

Conclusion

Congratulations! You have successfully set a custom world seed on your Valheim server. You and your friends can now connect and explore the new, unique world you have chosen.
