How to Fix "Connection Refused" or "Server Not Found" Errors

It can be frustrating when you try to join your server and receive a "Connection Refused" or "Server Not Found" error. These errors usually mean that your game client cannot reach the server at the specified address. Here are the most common solutions.

1. Check if the Server is Running

The most common cause is that the server is currently offline or still starting up.

  • Log in to the VGN Game Panel.
  • Check your server status. If it says "Offline," click Start.
  • Wait for the console to say "Server marked as running" before trying to connect.

2. Verify the IP and Port

Ensure you are using the correct connection details.

  • On the server console page, look for the IP Address box.
  • Make sure you include the Port (the numbers after the colon, e.g., :25565).
  • Example: 123.456.78.9:25565.

3. Check for Version Mismatch

Some games (like Minecraft) require your game client version to exactly match the server version.

  • Check the server console or the "Startup" tab to see which version you are running.
  • Ensure your game launcher is set to the same version.

4. Firewall and Anti-Virus

Sometimes your own computer or network might be blocking the connection.

  • Temporarily disable your Firewall or Anti-Virus to see if you can connect.
  • If you are at a school or work network, they may be blocking game ports.

5. Domain Propagation

If you recently connected a Custom Domain, it can take up to 24–48 hours to work everywhere.

  • Try connecting using the numerical IP address instead of your domain to see if it works.
