A Discord bot is a process that must stay connected to Discordโs gateway. Close the laptop and the bot goes idle. That is why people buy Discord bot hosting instead of leaving a Python window open. This page is when a bot plan is enough, and when you want a VPS instead.
What a bot plan is
One process in the game panel: you upload the files, set the token as an environment variable or a config the panel does not print in screenshots, and keep it running. Restarts and logs are in the same UI as a Minecraft server. It is not a guild. It is not Discord Nitro. It is just the host for the code you already wrote or downloaded.
We do not ship a โbest botโ for you. Bring your own. If you do not have a bot yet, write or install one first, then put it here.
PC vs hosted vs VPS
- Your PC is fine for development. It is a bad production host. Sleep, updates, and a closed lid all disconnect the gateway.
- A bot plan is one always-on process. Use it for a single bot the guild expects to answer.
- A VPS is a Linux machine. Use it when you run several bots, a database, or a stack you want to own. /vps/ redirects to VGNCloud for that.
Tokens and files
Treat the bot token like a password. Do not paste it into a public ticket or a screenshot. Rotate it if it leaked. The files are yours: if you delete the server, the token still works on Discord until you reset it in the developer portal.
A bot is not a Minecraft plugin. It does not go on the Minecraft plan unless you built something that talks to both, and even then the bot still needs its own process.
