Vintage Story server hosting

What a Vintage Story dedicated server needs: RAM, mods, ports, and when a game plan beats running it on a PC. Prices stay on the product page.

“Vintage Story server hosting” is a small query with almost no clicks. If you landed here, you want a dedicated process that stays up when your PC sleeps, with the same mods as the clients. We sell that on the Vintage Story page. This guide is what the plan is for, not a price list.

What the server is

Vintage Story’s dedicated server is a .NET process. Friends connect to an IP and port. The world, player data, and mods live on disk. A game plan gives you that process in the panel: start, stop, files, console. You do not install the runtime on your laptop.

A VPS is the other shape. You get a Linux machine and you install the server yourself. Use /vps/ only if you want that job. Most groups want the panel.

RAM, mods, and “it will not start”

Vanilla Vintage Story is lighter than a heavy Minecraft modpack, but mods still add RAM. Start from the plan page, not from a screenshot. If the process dies on boot, the usual causes are a mod the clients do not have, a broken serverconfig.json, or a world from a newer game version.

Keep the server and the clients on the same game version and the same mod list. That is the Vintage Story equivalent of a Paper plugin mismatch.

Ports and joining

The default game port is the one in the server config. On a hosted plan the panel shows the address. On a home machine you forward that port. If a friend cannot join, check version and mods before you blame the address. Then check the address.

Need to see if something else is online first? Minecraft has a status checker. Vintage Story does not use that tool.

When a game plan is enough

A few friends, one world, a known mod list: buy the Vintage Story plan. If you also run Minecraft, that is a separate Minecraft plan, not a second world on the same process. Discord for the group can live on a bot plan or a VPS, not inside Vintage Story.

Questions

Do you sell Vintage Story server hosting?+

Yes. Plans and live prices are on the Vintage Story page. This guide does not reprint them.

Can I run Vintage Story mods?+

Yes. Upload the same mod pack the clients use. Mismatched mods are the usual reason a friend cannot join.

Is a VPS better than a game plan?+

A game plan is the panel and the process already running. A VPS is a Linux machine if you want to install the server yourself.
