Vintage Story server hosting

Vintage Story server hosting from €3.99/mo: four plans with 4–16 GB RAM, what makes a host good for Vintage Story, mods, ports, and fixing startup errors.

Vintage Story server hosting means a dedicated server process that stays up when your PC sleeps, with the same mods as the clients. We sell that on the Vintage Story page, from €3.99/mo. This guide covers what the server needs, what the plans cost, and what to look for when you compare hosts.

Plans and prices

Four plans, billed monthly in euros. The difference is RAM and storage.

PlanRAMStoragePrice
Clay Wanderer4 GB15 GB€3.99/mo
Copper Forager8 GB30 GB€7.99/mo
Bronze Settler12 GB50 GB€12.99/mo

A few friends on vanilla can start on the smallest plan. A modded world or a larger group should start higher. Order on the Vintage Story buy page.

What the server is

Vintage Story’s dedicated server is a .NET process. Friends connect to an IP and port. The world, player data, and mods live on disk. A game plan gives you that process in the panel: start, stop, files, console. You do not install the runtime on your laptop.

A VPS is the other shape. You get a Linux machine and you install the server yourself. Use a VGNCloud VPS only if you want that job. Most groups want the panel.

What makes a host best for Vintage Story

“Best” depends on your group. These are the things that actually change how the server plays:

  • RAM that fits the mod list. Vanilla is light. Mods and a big explored world add memory. Pick by your mod list and group size, and check that the host lets you move up a plan later.
  • Fast storage. The world is saved to disk all the time. NVMe or SSD storage keeps saves and chunk loading quick. Ask what the host uses if the plan page does not say.
  • Location close to the players. A shorter distance usually means lower latency. Pick a datacenter near most of your group, then test it yourself in game.
  • Mod support you control. You should be able to upload any mod the clients use, not only a fixed list. Mods are just files in the server’s Mods folder.
  • Direct file access. SFTP or a file manager, so you can upload mods, edit serverconfig.json, and download your world.
  • Clear monthly pricing. Plan names, RAM, storage, and the price on the page, without a sales call.

RAM, mods, and “it will not start”

Vanilla Vintage Story is lighter than a heavy Minecraft modpack, but mods still add RAM. If the process dies on boot, the usual causes are a mod the clients do not have, a broken serverconfig.json, or a world from a newer game version.

Keep the server and the clients on the same game version and the same mod list. That is the Vintage Story equivalent of a Paper plugin mismatch.

Ports and joining

The default game port is the one in the server config. On a hosted plan the panel shows the address. On a home machine you forward that port. If a friend cannot join, check version and mods before you blame the address. Then check the address.

Need to see if something else is online first? Minecraft has a status checker. Vintage Story does not use that tool.

When a game plan is enough

A few friends, one world, a known mod list: a game plan is enough. If you also run Minecraft, that is a separate Minecraft plan, not a second world on the same process. Modding Valheim instead? See how to install BepInEx on a Valheim server. Discord for the group can live on a bot plan or a VPS, not inside Vintage Story.
