Minecraft Server Status Checker: how to check online

Check if a Minecraft Java or Bedrock server is online. Paste an IP, read player count and MOTD, then use the free status checker.

People type “minecraft server status checker” and “check server minecraft” when they want one answer: is this address online, and who is on it. That is what the Minecraft server status checker does. This page is the how-to. The tool is the form.

What the checker actually asks

You paste a host, optionally with a port. The page calls a public Minecraft status API and prints whether the server answered, the MOTD, the player count, and the version. It works for Java and Bedrock. It does not log you in. It does not start a server.

If you run the server, this is a fast way to confirm the address you just mailed your friends. If you are joining someone else, it is a way to see “offline” before you wait in a loading screen.

How to check a Minecraft server

  1. Open the status checker.
  2. Paste the same address the Minecraft client uses. For Java that is often play.example.com or play.example.com:25565. For Bedrock include the port if it is not the default.
  3. Submit. Online means the query got a reply. Offline means it did not, or the address is wrong.

A timeout is not the same as a banned account. If you can join in the client but the checker says offline, the query port is probably firewalled. That is common on home-hosted boxes. A hosted Minecraft plan answers status queries unless you turned query off on purpose.

What the numbers mean

  • Players is who the server reported, not a live spectator view.
  • Version is what the handshake sent. A proxy can show a different string than the backend.
  • MOTD is the message of the day. You can build one in the MOTD generator.

Need the other lookup people search next to this? UUID to username is a separate tool. Opening a first server is covered in what you actually need.

If you are buying, not checking

Status tools do not replace a plan. Java, Bedrock, and modpack prices stay on the Minecraft page. If you want a raw Linux machine instead of a game panel, /vps/ sends you to VGNCloud.

Questions

What is a Minecraft server status checker?+

A page that asks a public status API whether an address is online, then shows player count, version, and MOTD. Ours is free and needs no login.

Does it work for Java and Bedrock?+

Yes. Paste the Java address, or a Bedrock address with the port if it is not the default. The tool labels what came back.

Why does a server look offline when I can join?+

The query port can be firewalled, or the address is wrong. Try the same host:port your client uses. A timeout is not the same as a banned account.
