Every 1 block traveled in the Nether equals 8 blocks in the Overworld. This applies only to the X and Z axes. The Y axis remains unchanged between dimensions.
Portal Linking
When you enter a portal, the game searches for the nearest existing portal within 128 blocks in the destination dimension. If none is found, a new portal is created at the calculated coordinates.
