How the Minecraft server status checker works

When you enter a server address, this tool sends the server a lightweight query — the same handshake the Minecraft client makes when it lists a server in your multiplayer menu. Within a second it reports whether the server answered, how many players are online, which version it accepts, and its MOTD (the message-of-the-day shown in the server list). Nothing is installed and no login is required.

Reading the results

  • Online / Offline — whether the server answered the status request. Offline can mean the server is stopped, still starting, or unreachable from the public internet.
  • Players — the current player count and the maximum slots the server reports.
  • Version — the Minecraft version (or range) the server accepts.
  • MOTD — the short description the owner set, which can include colours and formatting.

Why a running server can still show offline

The most common cause is the wrong address or port. Java servers default to port 25565 and Bedrock to 19132; if the owner changed it, add the port after a colon (for example play.example.com:25566). A server bound only to a local/LAN address, or blocked by a firewall or the host network, also shows as offline even though it works for players on the same network.

Java and Bedrock

The checker works for both editions. Bedrock uses a different protocol and default port, so enter the address the way your players connect. If you host with us, your server's live status also appears in your control panel, and you can share the address with friends so they can see when you are online.
